Fostering is a commitment just like adopting. The biggest difference is that the animal is a visitor in your home, new to your family and to your other animals. In many cases they've been out surviving completely on their own. They may not be used to having a schedule (yours), people, or other animals around them all the time Keeping this in mind, please answer the following:
** Note ** SMART will provide you with a Crate, Bowls, food, Litter supplies, and anything else your foster requires to be health and happy while staying with you. **
Will there be an adult home during a normal day? *
If you answered "No", How many hours (estimate) will your foster be home alone on a normal day? Please Type "N/A" if you answered Yes.
Do you have the time and patience to work with a foster animal to help them adjust to their new surroundings? It can take up to a few weeks or more before your foster learns to adapt to your schedule and lifestyle. Disciplining a mistake will not be understood, and may make the dog think you are aggressive and can't be trusted. (Ex. Peeing in the house if they aren't potty trained, chewing a shoe if they've had no toys, scratching furniture, etc) *** Every Foster has a unique past, we usually don't get an animals history *** *
If you answered No to having a fenced yard In the Housing Section - Please share with us how you will exercise and ensure your Foster doesn't run away when outside? *
